THE BRONX - Crews have broken ground on construction for a new mall in the Kingsbridge area.

The proposed retail space is called the Broadway Plaza Development and will be built on Broadway and Kimberly Street. According to the borough president's office, the original developer did nothing with the land and caused many delays.

The new developer, Equity One, plans to spend $54 million to construct the 133,000-square-foot retail development, which will include seven or eight stores. More than a hundred covered parking spots and a pedestrian plaza will also be built.

The project is expected to bring in 250 full and part-time jobs and approximately 500 construction jobs. Equity One says the development will be open in the fall of next year.
