THE BRONX - A group of Bronx construction workers is protesting over job site conditions it says are unfit.

Workers rallied outside construction sites at 3160 Park Ave. and 316 162nd St.

They say the job sites are unsafe and that they do not have access to the proper tools and safety equipment. They also accuse their employers of wage theft and harassment.

Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. turned out in support of the workers.

"I am the one who always wants to continue to develop the borough, but I will not do that at the expense of exploitation of the people I represent," Diaz said.

The city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development, which runs the 162nd Street site, said the project there is subject to review by its labor monitoring unit.

The department said it has not received any complaints about wage-related issues there.

Calls to the organizations overseeing the Park Avenue site were either not returned or answered only without comment.
