THE BRONX - Police say 17 people have been arrested for running an international car theft ring out of the Bronx.

After a year-long investigation, the state attorney general's office, as well as state and city police departments, squashed the operation that they say stole cars in the Bronx before either selling them in the tri-state area or shipping them to Senegal, Africa for $25,000 per vehicle.

Authorities say the alleged operatives stole nearly 500 Toyota SUVs and other high-end cars and stored them in five different garages in the South Bronx.

The suspects face several charges, including enterprise corruption, a crime punishable by 25 years in prison.
