Cops: 5-year-old found dead, 7-year-old sister hospitalized

THE BRONX - A Bronx father is in police custody after his 5-year-old son was found dead and 7-year-old sister was hospitalized in Morris Heights.

According to the NYPD, Stewart Espinal was found unconscious and unresponsive at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on West 179th Street. A source says 47-year-old Leonardo Espinal was then taken into custody.

Espinal allegedly admitted to poisoning a pizza that he and his young daughter ate. She is in critical, but stable condition and it is not known if her brother also ate the pizza.

The source says the children's mother has been questioned, but no charges have been filed.

The medical examiner has not yet determined a cause of death.
