Police say that a fatal shooting earlier this week on Creston Avenue was gang-related, part of what they say is a disturbing trend of gangs

THE BRONX - Police say that a fatal shooting earlier this week on Creston Avenue was gang-related, part of what they say is a disturbing trend of gangs popping up in the borough. Shamal Coles, 17, allegedly gunned down Dontae Murray, 16, Tuesday night. Coles is now facing murder charges.

The New York City Police Department?s website reports there has been an 8.7-percent increase in murders in The Bronx from 2009-2011.

Community advocates are also concerned, fearing that the lack of summer jobs will increase violence even more.
