THE BRONX - The search is intensifying for the gunman who killed a Bronx grandmother in the first New York City homicide of 2013.
Investigators say 59-year-old Elzina Brown was fatally shot in the chest by her daughter's boyfriend, 25-year-old Raymond Mayrant, during a domestic dispute between the couple. The shooting happened outside her apartment at the James Monroe Houses in Soundview Thursday afternoon.
Brown's 22-year-old daughter was also shot and is recovering at Jacobi Medical Center.
According to neighbors, Brown was home on a lunch break from P.S. 100, where she worked as a crossing guard. They say she had been trying to protect her daughter.
