THE BRONX - Authorities say a Bronx jewelry store robbery was thwarted when the store's owner opened fire.

Police say the would-be robbers, a man and woman, fled Spinelli Jewelers on Arthur Avenue when the shooting began. The owner pursued them and shot a man in the leg who police say appears to have been a lookout.

A police investigation is ongoing.
