THE BRONX - Calls are mounting for the city to alleviate heavy congestion at two busy Bronx crossroads.

Drivers who commute around Southern Boulevard and Bronx Park East, and Pelham Parkway and White Plains Road say that something needs to be done to help with the daily bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Bronx Councilman Jimmy Vacca is backing up those drivers, calling on the NYPD to assign permanent traffic agents to those heavy-traffic areas.

In a statement, Vacca said in part, "Every day in Manhattan, traffic agents direct drivers at major intersections, yet in the Bronx, we are left with unbearable traffic congestion."
