THE BRONX - Crews battled a massive four-alarm fire at a private dwelling on Valentine Avenue in the Bronx.

The fire was reported at around 4:30 p.m. at the building located at 2862 Valentine Ave. Fire marshals say the building was vacant, but the fire jumped to the home next door.

Officials say the home next to the abandoned building is a multi-family home with three families living there. They have not said how many have been displaced by the fire.

Officials say eight firefighters were injured, and another three civilians also suffered minor injuries in the fire.

The FDNY's official Twitter account tweeted to say that the fire was under control as of 7:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The FDNY says it will remain on the scene to ensure that every flame is out and the fire does not come back up.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
