THE BRONX - Con Edison crews worked through the night to replace cables damaged during a manhole explosion early yesterday morning in Riverdale.

Several tenants in four apartment buildings on Kingsbridge Avenue were left without power and gas for nearly 12 hours after the explosion caused two manhole fires.

Laundromats, restaurants and other local shops were also affected, but crews had the power restored by the afternoon.

Con Edison says it's still investigating the cause of the explosion.
