THE BRONX - The first formal cross-country race across the five boroughs kicked off this morning at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.

Seventy student athletes from seven colleges competed in the women's and men's 5K races.

The races were hosted by the Monroe Mustangs track and field program.

The season opening meet, called "The Mustang Stampede,” was a rare opportunity for NJCAA teams from across the U.S. to run cross-country within the five boroughs.
