THE BRONX - Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) is making a push for more learning time in classrooms across the state.
Education was among the topics highlighted by the governor in his State of the State speech Wednesday. He says he wants longer school days or calendar years, and full days for pre-K students, especially in low-income areas.
Cuomo also announced plans for an exam that all new teachers would be required to take and pass before they can get a job in New York.
According to the governor's website, education changes are important because the state spends more money per student than any other state in the country, but it only ranks 39th for high school graduation rates.
