NEW YORK - Most of the guns used to commit crimes in New York City are coming from out-of-state, officials announced at City Hall.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said that in 2011, 90 percent of the nearly 2,500 traceable guns used in city crimes were from other states, mostly in the south.
The new data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also shows that in 2010, 86 percent of the roughly 2,300 guns were not registered in New York.

The mayor said that recent mass shootings in other states have resulted in stricter gun laws, and he only hopes that the startling statistics on gun trafficking will inspire all states to do the same.
