THE BRONX - Mayor Bill de Blasio updated the public on the city's cleanup efforts during and after the snowstorm Monday.

The mayor praised the efforts of the Sanitation Department, NYPD, FDNY and first responders.

He reminded the public about the severity of the storm calling it a "historic snowstorm."

Just shy of 2 inches, the storm would have been the largest recorded snowstorm to hit New York City.

None the less, the mayor has continued to thank New Yorkers for their patience throughout the storm. He says crews are still working to plow secondary roads, making it their top priority.

The mayor shared his concerns over the amount of snow shoveling-related deaths during the storm.

He says five people died due to shoveling snow, and that it was too many. He urged the elderly and those with health issues not to shovel snow.
