NEW YORK - (AP) - The medical examiner's office says a Nicaraguandiplomat found dead in his New York City apartment committedsuicide.

A driver found Cesar Mercado in his Bronx apartment Sept. 22after he failed to show up for work at Nicaragua's PermanentMission. The 34-year-old had dozens of stab wounds and his throathad been cut. The case was being investigated as a homicideinitially.

The medical examiner's office said Friday that Mercado's causeof death was self-inflicted slash wounds to the neck.

Mercado's family was in Nicaragua and he lived in the U.S.alone.
