THE BRONX - One local church is using spirituality to guide Bronx residents on the road to a healthier lifestyle.

People filled the pews at Deliverance Temple of Faith Church to listen to local members and ask their own questions about their health as part of a health fair called "New Year, New You."

Felicia Frierson, a nurse, went down a checklist on how to prevent diabetes and high blood pressure by eating healthy and exercising. She spoke in plain terms to residents, abandoning medical jargon so the audience could really understand what she was saying.

Frierson says it is important to start healthier habits for the new year and not give up on them.

The church will hold another event in February call "Go Red for Women," where they will perform free cholesterol screeings.
