MOUNT EDEN - Bronx residents wore jeans at a rally this afternoon in Mount Eden to raise awareness of sexual assault.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the third Wednesday in April is observed worldwide as Denim Day. The day started after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction in 1998 because the victim was wearing tight jeans.

Statistics show nearly half of American women have experienced some form of sexual violence in their lives.
