SOUTH BRONX - The Sheridan Expressway in the South Bronx may be getting a facelift.

The Department of City Planning project proposes to turn the highway into a boulevard. Three new stoplights would also be created so pedestrians can easily reach the Bronx River Greenway and spots like Starlight Park.

The project could also help businesses in the area. The expressway is supposed to be a direct access point to the Hunts Point Market from the Cross Bronx Expressway, but currently only about 20 percent of trucks are entering the market that way.

New proposed ramps would allow truckers easy access to the Hunts Point Market without leaving the Bruckner Expressway.

These plans need to be approved by the State Department of Transportation. City Planning is confident that the South Bronx will see changes with this comprehensive plan.
