Department of Transportation announces changes throughout the Bronx

HUNTS POINT - The Department of Transportation is taking steps to improve traffic safety throughout the Bronx. Crames Square in Hunts Point is one of the neighborhoods to get a traffic overhaul. Residents often complained about the number of traffic lights and the lack of pedestrian islands and crossing guards.

The DOT has already approved three new pedestrian islands, will be re-striping the road to two lanes and adding left turn bays to better organize traffic flow.

The changes will come as early as next month.

The DOT plans to reduce traffic fatalities by 50 percent by the year 2030.
