NEW YORK - The most dangerous streets in the outer boroughs will soon be getting safer with help from a $250 million improvement project.

"Vision Zero Great Streets" is the latest part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's Vision Zero initiative, which has mostly focused on lowering speed limits until now.

The Department of Transportation says the expanded vision will include physical changes to troublesome areas, such as extended curbs, wider road medians and protected bicycle lanes. It will target roadways known for pedestrian accidents and fatalities.

The Grand Concourse in the Bronx is among the streets that will see an overhaul as part of the new safety project.
