WAKEFIELD - Police are looking for the driver who jumped the curb early this morning in Wakefield, killing a pedestrian before taking off.

Police say the 1988 Toyota Sienna was traveling eastbound on East 233rd Street when the driver jumped the curb and struck a 32-year-old Derrick Callender. He was taken to Montefiore North Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Family members say Callender leaves behind two young children. His family is urging the driver to turn themselves in.

Police have one person in custody but did not release details surrounding their involvement with the incident.

Eyewitnesses say there were several people inside the Toyota at the time of the crash.
