MELROSE - A vacant lot in Melrose will soon be a public plaza with a new restaurant, supermarket and college campus.

Developers broke ground today on the empty Triangle Plaza Hub to make way for new businesses. They say the $40 million public-private project will bring 200 construction jobs and 150 permanent positions to the South Bronx.

Bronx residents say they are looking forward to a new, much-needed grocery store in the area.

Organizers expect the transformation will be complete by the end of next year.
