Diaz honors hit-and-run survivor in borough's best in blood

THE BRONX - The borough president will be highlighting Bronx teen Emily Sexton in an event that honors those who sponsor blood drives.

Emily Sexton was a senior at Preston High School who was struck by a drunken driver in November. She was treated at Jacobi Medical Center, and family members say she received 20 units of blood during several surgeries at Jacobi Medical Center.

In 2010, New York Blood Center provided 63,943 crucial blood products to Bronx hospitals and patients. Approximately 16,446 blood donations were made within the Bronx, a 2 percent increase in donations from 2009.
