THE BRONX - A man was formally charged in the stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend.

Dionis Espinal went before a judge Tuesday to have his charges read to him in the murder of 20-year-old Katherine German.

Espinal is charged with murder, manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal intent.

Authorities say Espinal rammed German's car off the Pelham Parkway on Aug. 28, then stabbed her to death. German was the mother of their 1-month-old child and Espinal's longtime girlfriend.

Police say the two had a history of domestic violence. In May, German filed a restraining order against Espinal.

Espinal is pleading not guilty to all of the charges and is due back in court on Oct. 18.
