Disabled commuter seeks accommodations at Parkchester station

THE BRONX - Major renovations are under way at the Parkchester subway station, but a local handicapped commuter says the plans are missing something: escalators. Dwayne Watkins, a local straphanger who has multiple sclerosis, says climbing stairs can sometimes be challenging. The station has no elevators or escalators, so he says taking the train is no longer an option for him. Work started on the Parkchester station in 2010, but there are no plans to include stair alternatives. Watkins says he has reached out to the borough president to see if something can be done.
