THE BRONX - A Morris Heights apartment building recognized as the birthplace of hip-hop has been given a new beat.

Tenants and city officials came together to celebrate the completion of two years of renovations at 1520 Sedgwick Ave., which is where the genre's creator, DJ Kool Herc, grew up.

The father of hip-hop himself even attended the unveiling of the new apartments, which residents say is a far cry from his reigning days in the 70s.

The remodel was funded by the city.
