THE BRONX - The Department of Education is investigating a charge that hundreds of students at a Bronx school were exposed to asbestos.

I.S. 217 at 977 Fox St. was evacuated Wednesday after a contractor's drilling during school hours exposed the children to the asbestos, says one teacher.

The Department of Education confirmed that the incident did happen, but says the children in the school were not in harm's way.
