THE BRONX - Dozens of students, community leaders and elected officials protested today at Bronx Community College over the planned deportation of a student to his native El Salvador.

Julio Hernandez, who is currently enrolled at the school, was caught by immigration agents while riding a Greyhound bus back to New York from Chicago in April.

He says that he fled El Salvador after being threatened by gangs over him being gay and now fears for his life if he is forced to return.

Hernandez will learn his fate on Aug. 9 when he goes before an immigration judge.
