Dozens serve up protest for Manhattan College dining workers

THE BRONX - More than 80 former Manhattan College workers, along with students and faculty members, rallied in Riverdale today demanding that the school's new dining hall provider rehire laid-off workers.

According to the former Sodexo Company employees, they were handed pink slips after the college changed its dining service provider to the Gourmet Dining Company. Some say they had worked at the school for more than a decade and now have nowhere to turn.

In a statement, Manhattan College said, "Gourmet Dining has welcomed these former Sodexo employees to its workforce and allowed employees to interview for positions. Gourmet Dining has offered jobs to about one-third of the Sodexo workforce."

However, many of those who were cut say that they were left out of that pool. The workers say they'll continue to walk the picket line until their jobs are offered back.
