THE BRONX - Health experts say residents should take measures to avoid dehydration amid the heat wave.

Not only is drinking plenty of fluids essential, but experts say some foods and drinks should be avoided.

Dr. Jeffrey Lazar, of St. Barnabas Hospital, says people should avoid things like soda because of the high amount of sugar and caffeine.

He says that people working outside should also take additional water breaks.

One other measure people can take to minimize the heat's negative effects is wearing light, loose-fitting clothes.
