Everyone can relate to being stressed out every now and then, but in some cases, experts warn that it can lead to serious health problems.

NEW YORK - Everyone can relate to being stressed out every now and then, but in some cases, experts warn that it can lead to serious health problems. 

News 12 spoke with Dr. Simon Rego, from Montefiore Medical Center, to get advice on how to de-stress as part of National Stress Awareness Month this April. 

According to Rego, one easy way to release stressful energy and calm down quickly is simply taking slow, deep breaths from your diaphragm, not from your chest. 

Rego also recommends practicing muscle relaxation, which involves tensing your muscles and then letting them go. He says it will help you relax and recognize the areas where you're most tense. 

It's important to practice these skills even on the days that you're not stressed out, Rego says.
