CITY ISLAND - Bronx residents say that they have been seeing a surplus in the deer population near City Island.

People in the area say there have been multiple car collisions with local wildlife in the area and that they need a solution that will help improve safety on local roads.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is launching a pilot program to improve the public's input about the increasing deer population in the borough.

A local civic association is pushing to get the Department of Transportation to install deer crossing signs near the Pelham Bay Bridge and Hutchinson River Parkway.

Residents say the Department of Transportation has plans to install temporary signs in areas where deer frequently cross.
