THE BRONX - One of five reputed gang members involved in the 2009 after-school shooting of a Bronx teen was sentenced to 18 years in prison for conspiracy and assault in the first degree.

Dwayne Taylor pleaded guilty to both counts in connection with the shooting in Morrisania. Two people were seriously injured in the shooting, including 15-year-old Vada Vazquez, who was shot in the head while walking to school.

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office says Taylor and four other suspects were part of the Gorilla Stone Gang and were attempting to take down a rival gang member.

The sentence was negotiated as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

Seven other defendants still have open cases in connection to the incident. They are preparing for upcoming hearings and trials.
