THE BRONX - The Bronx and the rest of New York City were left unscathed after Hurricane Earl brushed past the region yesterday with less intensity than originally feared."I feel happy that it went elsewhere," says resident Luis Acosta. Some local beaches could still see rough surf and dangerous rip currents. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Earl, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm, came ashore in Nova Scotia, Canada, at around 10 a.m. this morning with sustained winds of nearly 70 mph.Last night, Earl dumped heavy rain on parts of Massachusetts, knocking power to some communities.
