East 180th Street gets safety improvements

THE BRONX - The Department of Transportation is making some changes along East 180th Street to improve the flow of traffic and increase pedestrian safety.

In the past three years, there have been six accidents on East 180th Street between Boston Road and Webster Avenue. Illegal turns and a heavy flow of traffic are the main causes of these accidents, residents say.

The one-mile long stretch has been undergoing a makeover for the past week, with construction crews installing painted center medians with left turn bays.

The construction is expected to last through the end of October. Drivers are urged to use caution in the area.
