THE BRONX - An elderly woman is dead after a fire broke out in a Bedford Park apartment Monday night.

According to fire officials, 70-year-old Joanna Govanail was killed when flames erupted on the third floor of a six-story building on East 205th Street and the Grand Concourse. They say a second unidentified person was hurt.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
