THE BRONX - The NYPD held an event Wednesday it hopes will help stop the flow of guns into Bronx streets.

The New York City Police Foundation hosted the event to promote the NYPD?s Gun Stop Program, which offers rewards for anonymous information that leads to arrests for illegal possession of handguns.

?We think it's important to educate the kids about gun violence,? says NYPD Lt. Jose Torres.

Food, face painting and games were part of the festivities on West Tremont and Harrison avenues. Detectives also made several presentations on how the program works. Officials say more than $800,000 in reward money has been allotted and more than 1,500 guns have been removed from city streets because of the initiative.
