THE BRONX - Former Bronx County Republican Chairman Joseph Savino pleaded guilty to bribery conspiracy and wire fraud charges Tuesday afternoon.

Savino was charged by the FBI in April, along with five other prominent New York State political leaders.

According to the indictment Savino, along with Queens County GOP leader Vincent Tabone, accepted $15,000 so that a Democratic state senator could run for New York City mayor as a Republican.

The alleged plot spilled over to Rockland County, involving Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin and her Deputy Mayor Joseph Desmaret in a real estate scam.

The remaining five defendants maintain they did nothing wrong.
