Ex-police officer pleads not guilty in wife's murder

THE BRONX - The former police officer accused of killing his wife pleaded not guilty in court today.

Eddy Coello, a former housing officer, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife.

Prosecutors say Coello strangled 40-year-old Tina Adovasio, a nurse and mother of four, before dumping her body in the woods near the Taconic State Parkway.

Prosecutors say they have surveillance footage and forensic evidence that implicates Coello.

Coello is being held without bail on Rikers Island.  If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.  He is due in court again on June 17.
