THE BRONX - Former state Sen. Pedro Espada, Jr. and his son, Pedro G. Espada, were back in court earlier this afternoon as lawyers attempted to confirm a trial date.
Both Espada and his son are accused of embezzling more than $500,000 from their Soundview Health Clinic.
It is the third time Espada and his son faced a federal judge since December, when they were indicted on embezzlement charges. Officials say the used the money stolen to support a lavish lifestyle that included expensive meals, Broadway show tickets, sporting events, luxury cars and a homemade petting zoo.
They have both pleaded not guilty.
