Experts urge caution when sharing the road with trucks

THE BRONX - With many drivers on the road heading for vacations and increased construction projects across the borough this summer, experts are warning drivers to be more cautious when driving around trucks.

Officials say that most accidents between trucks and cars are usually the fault of the car's driver. They say that each year, more than 400 people are killed just hitting the rear of a truck, and about 5,000 people are injured.

Experts say to give trucks plenty of room when changing lanes, not to stop short in front of a truck since they take longer to stop than a car does and to avoid distractions while driving like using the phone or texting.
