Family: Home St. shooting victim is speaking

THE BRONX - The family and doctors of the Bronx teen who was shot in the head last week updated the media on the girl's status Wednesday, saying the 15-year-old is making a miraculous recovery.

Vada Vasquez's doctors at Lincoln Hospital, where she was brought with a bullet lodged in her brain, say the girl can now sit up and even talk.

Vasquez spent several days in a coma, but over the weekend she was taken off the ventilator and opened her eyes.

Gemma Vasquez says her daughter is still having trouble speaking, but is in good spirits. The Vasquezes say they will spend Thanksgiving Day with their daughter at the hospital.
