MANHATTAN - The family of Trayvon Martin marked the one-year anniversary of his shooting death with a candlelight vigil in New York City.

The unarmed 17-year-old was gunned down in Florida by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who claims he acted in self-defense. The shooting set off a national outcry over issues of race, as well as stand-your-ground laws.

Martin's parents held the vigil and moment of silence in Manhattan's Union Square.
