THE BRONX - The family of a woman saved by an off-duty NYPD officer from the Bronx in Westchester County is praising him for his heroic actions.

Ronae Henderson, of Mount Vernon, was on the subway when her 22-year-old daughter, Gwenasia Henderson, was frantically trying to reach her Monday afternoon. The Mercy College student was on her way to class with a friend, but she lost control of her SUV, hydroplaned and wound up in about two feet of water off the Saw Mill River Parkway.

A tow company used a 75-foot metal chain to pull out the flooded vehicle.

Off-duty NYPD Officer Eric Karl, based out of the Bronx's 44th Precinct, saw the accident, stopped and pulled out Henderson and her 21-year-old passenger.

Ronae Henderson thanked the officer for his actions, saying that he certainly saved her daughter's life.

Officer Karl is a 16-year veteran of the NYPD.
