NEW YORK - The FDNY held a promotions ceremony and unveiled new equipment today on Randall’s Island.
More than 40 firefighters were promoted to lieutenant and six men were promoted to deputy chief at a ceremony today attended by friends and family.
The FDNY also showed off its newest fleet of fire vehicles, rescue boats and other new equipment. Officials say they were built to withstand catastrophes like Superstorm Sandy.
A new EMS relocation trailer contains all that is needed to operate a temporary station for nearly two weeks. The new trucks were built to plow through up to 4 feet of snow. The boats will be able to operate in streets that have rising floodwaters.
Fire officials say more than $6 million was spent on the new equipment.
