THE BRONX - One year after his unexpected death, firefighter Alexander Lopez was honored by members of the FDNY.

Family, friends and former coworkers gathered at Ladder 41 on White Plains Road for a plaque dedication. Lopez, a 16-year veteran, served during the Sept. 11 attacks, helping to locate victims' remains among the rubble.

FDNY officials say the plaque will be a reminder to all of Lopez's bravery and the contributions he made to The Bronx community. Lopez died of a heart attack in Nanuet while he was off-duty.
