THE BRONX - An off-duty FDNY firefighter has been charged with driving while intoxicated after police say he struck and injured two women, one of whom was pregnant.

Police say 39-year-old Sean Farrell was driving north on White Plains Road just before 6 p.m. Wednesday when he tried to make a right onto Westchester Avenue. He allegedly hit the two women, ages 42 and 38, in the crosswalk.

Both women were taken to Jacobi Medical Center. One of the victims, who was eight months pregnant, went into early labor. Both victims and the newborn are expected to be OK.

Farrell was charged with DWI and refusing to take a breathalyzer test at the scene. An FDNY spokesperson says Farrell has been with the force for 10 years and is assigned to work in the Bronx, but not at a specific fire station.

The FDNY spokesperson says Farrell will be suspended for 30 days without pay. He was charged with DWI back in 2010 and faces a higher sentence if found guilty.
