THE BRONX - The FDNY is shedding light on fire safety as the nation moves into Fire Prevention Week.

Firefighters held court in a Target store to hand off smoke detectors, pamphlets and other forms of literature. They emphasized the importance of periodically checking all smoke alarms to make sure their batteries are working. Firefighters also showed attendees a new alarm that has a 10-year lithium battery.

Firefighters say there are three major types of fires in New York City - cooking, electrical and candle-based.
