THE BRONX - A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today to unveil a new FDNY station in Brooklyn.
EMS Station 3, located on Zerega Avenue in Soundview, will serve residents of Castle Hill, Soundview, Parkchester, Bruckner, Harding Park and surrounding communities.
Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano says the new addition will provide residents of the South Bronx with faster medical care because there will be more units centrally located.
The station is the 10th of its kind in the Bronx, but it's the first in the five boroughs that can boast being green. The station will utilize solar power and can use runoff water for a community garden.
A total of 78 EMTs and paramedics will be stationed at the new facility.
EMS Station 3 took 20 months to build and cost $14 million.
