THE BRONX - The FDNY is reminding people to leave the fireworks to the professionals this Fourth of July weekend.

New York City Fire Department Lt. Anthony Mancuso says some people don't understand all of the risks of lighting fireworks.

"You can lose fingers, you can lose eyes," Mancuso said. "People have been badly burned.”

Fireworks are illegal to buy or sell in New York City. If anyone is caught with them in their car, penalties can be over $200.

The FDNY fire marshals say they have seized over $10,000 worth of illegal fireworks already.

The fire department encourages anyone aware of the illegal sale of fireworks to call 311.
